SaveEC.ca has been down for over a month, but is finally back online and in business.
We received notice on 25 September 2013 from our former internet services provider that our Web server had suffered a "major issue" that resulted in the "massive data loss", including all backups. The email is given at the bottom. Despite a pledge to follow up, they still have not let us know how the data loss occurred, or who else was affected. There has been no explanation as to how a server fault could wipe out the backups we were paying them to keep.
Needless to say, this was a major setback. We were fortunate to have an old backup from which we could begin restoring the site. The remainder was put together using google cache. There is still a backlog of articles we need to archive, and this will be completed as time allows.
Our site is now hosted by a different company, and we have automated the backup process to multiple locations. Lesson learned!
